Elite Dangerous is a space flight simulation game from Frontier and has so much to offer other than being just another adventure game. Odyssey Developer’s diary is an expansion of the game coming along with its first chapter – Planetary exploration: One Giant Leap.
A video on YouTube lets us meet with the Game Director Piers Jackson, Art Directors Chris Gregory and Jonathan Bottone, Principal Programmer Kay Ross, and Lead Designer Gareth Hughes while they explain the true nature and the mesmerizing visuals of the game. On August 18, 2020, PlayStation announced the arrival of the game along with the link to the video. The video shows how the game lets the users explore different parts of our Milkyway including other galaxies in this vast universe.
Arriving in 2021, the game will open the door to a whole new world with countless possibilities. Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Development Diary is a long-awaited and much-anticipated game. From exploring new planets, wearing dashing new suits to gaining experience about the world and beyond, ‘One Giant Leap’ lets you experience it all.
What makes it different?
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Development Diary ‘One Giant Leap’ is not only about exploring new planets, but also about the experience, sense, and process of engaging yourself into the game.
Push the idea of getting that Neil Armstrong moment, where you step foot on a planet for the first time. You had to have a slight emotional resonance to had to feel like you are actually touching the ground for the first time. – Piers Jackson, Game Director
This exact feeling of amazement in this chapter of the game aims to deliver to the players. The moment the players step out from their aircraft, a new world becomes alive from the unknown land to the size of the huge aircraft- everything becomes a part of your experience.
Even the galaxies are given names and are represented one by one to you as you go on exploring the game. The suits are also designed according to the atmosphere of the planets. Thus, players will also be able to hear their breathing which is a very important part of the exploration.
Moreover, the atmospheres of the planets are also kept in mind. The team collected the data that could specify what planet had what kind of atmosphere, their atmosphere pressure, their composition, their temperature, etc. and infused them into the game to enhance the quality of exploration. The on-foot perspective will let you visualize better. Players will get to explore rocky planets, new ice worlds, mountains, canyons, ridges, seas, or even the basins.
One of the most exciting add ons to the Odyssey Development Diary ‘One Giant Leap’ is the introduction of some more vegetation and floras. The floras are somewhat similar to the convergent life – recognizable yet quite different.
Most importantly, the first time a player encounters one of these organic life forms, they will be able to sample and extract genetic data from it. Then they will be able to log that in their codec and can also take some of that genetic information as data and trace them for rewards at Starports.
As you can see this game is all about delivering that mesmerizing experience along with the exploring ability so that anyone can have their ‘to the infinity and beyond’ moment.
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will arrive for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC around sometime in 2021. Please keep in touch for more updates.
