Today, the Japanese video game developer and publisher, Capcom, has officially released the consolidated business results for the first quarter of the fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2022.
The result released by the Japanese gaming giant shows that the company sold 32.6 million video games in the first quarter of the fiscal year compared to 30.1 million units sold in the previous year.
According to the company, it recorded a net sales of 110,054 million yen, 15.5% higher than the last fiscal year. For the operating income, it registered 42,909 million yen, equivalent to a 24.0% increase from the previous fiscal year, while ordinary income recorded a 27.2% increase of 44,330 million yen and the net income attributable to owners of the parent was 32,553 million yen, a 30.6% boost compared to the last fiscal year.
In explaining the consolidated financial results, the company said in the result that the Resident Evil Village (for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC), the most recent release in the series, sold 6.1 million units worldwide, whereas Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin (for Nintendo Switch, PC), an RPG title in the Monster Hunter series, sold 1.5 million units.
The Company spurred additional growth of its user base for the FY20 release Monster Hunter Rise (for Nintendo Switch) by releasing the PC version in January 2022. In addition, the continued popularity of library titles like Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, which was released in 2019, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, which was released in 2017, contributed to the revenue increase.
Given the above results, the Japanese gaming giant has achieved a huge profit of 32.6-million-unit annual sales volume for its video games in its core Digital Contents business during the just-concluded fiscal year, driven by the release of new titles in major series, such as Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, as well as the continued success of bolstering sales of catalog titles via digital sales promotion.
In addition, the company increased profits by utilizing these prominent brands in its character products, media, and eSports industries, as well as its Arcade Operations and Amusement Equipments divisions.
As a result, Capcom set new records for net sales, profit at all levels for the fifth consecutive year, and operating income growth for the ninth consecutive year.
Accordingly, Capcom expects net sales of 120,000 million yen and operating income of 48,000 million yen for the upcoming fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, resulting in 10 straight years of operating income increase and six consecutive years of record-high profit at all levels.
