As the world continues to go digital, the collaboration between the mobile and automobile industries has gone to the apex level with the manufacturing of needed digital key functions to ensure users safely and conveniently.

Back in April this year, OPPO announced a strategic partnership with the EV giant, Tesla, to manufacture digital car keys that connect OPPO smartphones to adapt all Tesla Model 3/Y vehicles for effective security. The digital car key was recently upgraded to support the Maverick electric bicycle. Now, the South Korean mobile giant is not left out with the introduction of the Samsung Pay Digital Key.

What is Samsung Pay Digital Key?

Samsung’s Digital Key was introduced mainly to expand supported vehicles and terminals for more convenient use. With Samsung Pay, Digital Key users can open, lock, and start their vehicle on their smartphone through Samsung Pay, and then use the vehicle safely and conveniently without a separate key.

How To Set Up Samsung Pay Digital Key?

Samsung’s Digital Key works similar to the OPPO’s digital car keys with the initial set up of the Samsung Pay via one Samsung device.

To do this, get a Samsung device either a phone or watch that support NFC or MST. Then created a Samsung account and support your credit, debit, or gift card therein, as well as your registered fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN.

Although Samsung Pay is normally preinstalled on compatible phones, you can always reinstall it if necessary. Open Samsung Pay after it has been installed, and then tap get started. Input a new Samsung Pay PIN, and then enter it again to confirm.

How To Use Samsung Pay Digital Key?

To enjoy this digital key function one must possess a Samsung smartphone that has been updated to the latest version of Android 12 OS with the Samsung Pay app that comes with the UWB digital key function.

Once that is done, place the back of the NFC-enabled smartphone on the vehicle’s handle to open, lock, and start the vehicle. The vehicle door lock is unlocked automatically when you approach your vehicle with a UWB-enabled smartphone.

What Are The Supported Devices?

The UWB supported smartphones including the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, S21+, S21 Ultra, Z-Fold2, Z-Fold3, S22+ and S22 Ultra. While the Genesis GV60 car supported the UWB function.

For the Z-Fold3 with the latest Android 11, OS the Galaxy S20 series (excluding S20FE), S21 series (including S21FE), S22 series, Note20 series, Z-Flip 5G, Z-Flip 3, and Z-Fold 2 supported the digital key functions with the Genesis GV60, G90 / Kia Niro / Hyundai Palisade vehicles.

And for BMW manufactured after ‘20.7 the Galaxy S21 series (excluding S21FE) with the latest Android 12 OS are supported therein.
