Since Elon Musk’s acquisition late last year, in a deal worth $43 billion, the bird app has been struggling to stand firmly. Other platforms have presented many competitors against the platform, one of such being T2 Social. This new app is currently accepting people to join its waitlist. Already some Twitter users are getting to try out the platform, making posts and even getting a checkmark.

T2 is one of a rising number of Twitter alternatives that have appeared since Musk’s set to pull verification from thousands of users. The platform is smaller than some of its more seasoned competitors, such as Mastodon, but it aims to recreate the open space connected to pre-Musk Twitter. In fact, the platform’s founder, Gabor Cselle, has made it very obvious that he does not want to offer an altogether different experience, but rather a plain clone of Twitter with some simplifications.

The T2 Social

Sarah Oh and Gabor Cselle, two former Twitter workers, founded the American social networking platform – T2. It provides an authenticated network where users can make posts and interact in communities. Despite being in invite-only beta, the site’s contents are open to the general public.

Cselle managed the development of fresh consumer goods in Google’s since-closed incubator before starting T2. From 2014 to 2016, Cselle served as a group product manager at Twitter, where he oversaw the consumer product and oversaw the revamp of Twitter’s logged-out site and mobile trends.

Sarah Oh previously held executive positions in the Trust and Safety departments at Twitter and Facebook. In November 2022, Cselle declared that T2 was in development. Cselle has expressed a desire to keep the platform as similar to the original Twitter platform as possible. T2 also places a strong emphasis on security and safety elements including user authentication.

T2 Social Features

A relatively new social media network called T2 Social seeks to give users a more tailored social media experience. Similar to other social media sites, T2 Social enables users to share photographs, videos, and status updates with their followers like Twitter.

T2 Social stands out from other social networking sites thanks to several distinctive characteristics, though. One of these features lets users divide their followers into different categories, such as friends, family, or coworkers, by creating circles. Instead of sharing information with every one of their followers, this feature enables users to share it with particular groups of people.

Users of T2 Social can also share their current mood with their followers using the app’s mood feature. Users can share a variety of emotions with their followers, such as joyful, sad, or thrilled, to let them know how they are feeling.

Did T2 Social Poised Take Over Twitter’s User Base?

The one-million-dollar question to ask here is, can T2 compete with Twitter, which has over 330 million active users? At first glance, T2 Social looks a lot like Twitter. It has a similar interface, with a feed of posts that users can scroll through – meaning it is here to compete and take over the bird app.

So, it can be rightly said that T2 Social is poised to take over Twitter’s user base. Although it’s too early to say for sure, there are a few factors that could work in T2’s favor. Now, let’s take a glance at some points we believe can be in favor of T2.

T2 Social and Twitter Faceoff

T2 is promoting itself as a more personable social networking platform, for starters. In contrast to Twitter, which has come under fire for how it handles harassment and hate speech, T2 is employing a more proactive moderation strategy. According to the T2 team, they will try to make a secure and friendly atmosphere for users and will act quickly to stop any abusive behavior.

Unlike Twitter, where the character restriction is 280, T2 enables users to publish messages up to 500 characters long. T2 also provides more profile customization choices, enabling users to provide more details about themselves and their hobbies.

T2 also aims to attract a distinct demographic from that of Twitter. T2 is aiming for a broader broad audience, whereas journalists, politicians, and tech aficionados have typically used Twitter to communicate. Those who want to express more in-depth views and opinions rather than just brief updates may find T2’s extended post style to be appealing.

Correcting Twitter Flaws

This new social media platform’s shortcomings include the tendency to inflame some Twitter users. It has to do with how Twitter is taking advantage of individuals who gained verification badges without becoming Blue subscribers. The rival (T2) now offers to return these people’s checks but on a new platform.

Twitter’s historical verification method is currently being phased down, forcing users to purchase a Blue subscription. Those who sign up for this monthly membership plan will receive a verification badge and access to additional services. The quest for a new platform is because this decision, which came after Elon Musk’s acquisition, doesn’t sit well with all of Twitter’s longtime users.

In exchange for creating an account with them, T2 Socials is providing new verification badges to Legacy Users. Some Twitter legacy users are already switching, even though the offer is only valid for a short period. Their new T2 accounts have a verification badge and a note indicating that they previously used Twitter Legacy.

This is just a desperate attempt to draw Twitter users who have lost their verification badges. However, the new rivalry limits this offer to former legacy customers who did not pay for the Blue subscription. Anyone logging in will need to complete a form to certify whether they had previously used Twitter Legacy to take advantage of this service.

Final Thought

Of course, T2 may also have to overcome certain obstacles. It might be challenging for new competitors to acquire headway in the social media market due to its extreme saturation. To entice people away from well-known sites like Twitter or Facebook, T2 will need to provide something genuinely exceptional and appealing. And even if T2 does attract people, it will probably encounter many of the same difficulties that Twitter has: how to strike a balance between free speech and censorship, as well as how to commercialize the site without alienating users.

Having said that, it is evident that T2 Social, a newcomer to the social media scene, has some potential. It remains to be seen if it can successfully compete with services like Twitter, but the fact that there is still an opportunity for new players in this market is evidence of the continuing significance of social media in our lives. Users ought to be anticipating the new features and improvements that platforms like T2 will introduce.
