Under the auspices of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Qualcomm and Nokia Bell have joined forces to achieve a significant milestone in the world of 5G technology. In a groundbreaking demonstration, the two tech giants successfully harnessed commercial chipsets in a real-world environment, showcasing the potential of 5G for ultra-high-speed scenarios.

This achievement represents a monumental leap forward in the capabilities of 5G networks. The Nokia Bell AirScale commercial 5G millimeter wave base station and core network system equipment, along with a smartphone-shaped test terminal outfitted with the Snapdragon® X75 modem and radio frequency system, were used to accomplish this test.

Qualcomm and Nokia Bell Breaking Barriers with 10 Gbps 5G Speed

The test makes use of FR1+FR2 DC and 5G NR independent networking dual connection (NR-DC). A 4X200MHz carrier channel based on the 26GHz (n258) 5G millimeter wave frequency range is used in the FR2 frequency band. An outer field based at 3.5 GHz (n78) is used in the FR1 frequency band. A single-user downlink peak performance of more than 10 per second (10 Gbps) is possible thanks to the 100 MHz bandwidth and huge downlink frame structure.

Additionally, the test used the independent networking (SA) mode, which offers features like network slicing and decreased latency and is based on the 5G core network (5GC).

Ultra-wideband and ultra-high speed are the technological characteristics of 5G-Advanced, with 10 Gigabit per second (10Gbps) serving as the standard industry symbol for the technology. In addition to offering high-end consumers a single-user ultra-high-speed experience, 10 GBps also offers more users a superior concurrent business experience.

A crucial component of the international 5G standard is the 5G millimeter wave. It can help mobile carriers make the most of the plentiful spectrum resources in frequency bands over 24 GHz and offer the best ultra-high bandwidth and low latency performance for use in commercial, industrial, and consumer application situations. To fully realize the potential of 5G technology and satisfy the expanding data requirements of additional scenarios, a 5G transmission speed of 10 Gbps is essential.

Setting new game-changing Technologies

Yan Chenwei, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm, said this accomplishment highlights the benefits of 5G millimeter wave technology.

“This latest milestone we achieved together with Nokia Bell further demonstrates the advantages of 5G millimeter wave technology and is an important step in the testing of 5G millimeter wave technology evolution in China. 5G millimeter wave technology By increasing network capacity at a lower cost, we are excited to see the tremendous advantages this transformative technology can demonstrate in supporting China’s 5G ecosystem to create new use cases and unlock new opportunities.”

On the other hand, Xue Rui, the executive vice president of Nokia Bell and head of the mobile network business group, said one essential way for the communications sector to meet the application capability requirements of vital businesses is through the 5G ultra-wideband application.

“5G ultra-wideband application, as an integral part of the new infrastructure’ is one of the important means for the communications industry to meet the application capability requirements of key industries. We are very pleased to cooperate with Qualcomm Technology companies to achieve this milestone, jointly lay a technical verification foundation for 5G-advanced ultra-wideband technology and millimeter wave commercialization, and provide a broader development space. We will work with our partners to continue to promote industry development, create the ultimate experience, and jointly create the 5G experience of the new era to the fullest.”
