Today, the Japanese video game developer and publisher, Capcom, has officially unveiled the overall sales of over five million copies of the Devil May Cry 5.
With this report from Capcom, the Devil May Cry 5, has managed to surpass the Devil May Cry 4 released in 2018 over the long haul.
The Devil May Cry 5 proved to be a huge success for Capcom, with the sales of over five million copies, in fact, surpassing even Devil May Cry 4, which to date has placed just under four million units worldwide.
The Devil May Cry 5 was published in March 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with the Special Edition following in November 2020 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S as a launch title for the latest Sony and Microsoft systems.
However, it should be noted that the Japanese video game developer and publisher have not stated whether sales of the Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition are included in the total, but as of December 31, 2021, Devil May Cry V had sold 4.8 million copies on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with sales exceeding 200,000 copies in the last quarter, allowing DMC V to break through the five million unit barrier.
As a result, the game outsells Devil May Cry 4 (4.8 million units sold) and Ninja Theory DmC (3.8 million units sold since its debut). Devil May Cry 3 has sold just over 2.2 million copies, whereas Devil May Cry 2 has sold just over 1.7 million copies, a significant drop from the first Devil May Cry, which sold over 2.1 million copies.
The Devil May Cry 5 is the sixth installment in the Devil May Cry series overall, and the fifth mainline installment. On March 8, 2019, Capcom launched it for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The game picks up five years after Devil May Cry 4 and follows a trio of demon-possessed warriors, including Dante, Nero, and a new protagonist named V, as they try to prevent the Demon King Urizen from destroying the human world.
The player can utilize these characters in various quests throughout their journey in Red Grave City. They each have their own strategy for battling and growing stronger.
