Xiaomi took the decision, which was instated in 2019, that they will essentially split off from the Redmi brand and Xiaomi’s own brand will be focusing more on premium handsets. On the other hand, Redmi will primarily be focusing more on the budget side; that is, they will make pocket-friendly smartphones. At the beginning of this year, Xiaomi launched the new Redmi Note 7 with moderate modifications. Since the split was finalized and the move to make each of the companies cater to a particular need was speculated, Chinese social media users had a very specific question in mind regarding the fast charge capability of the flagship. Xiaomi founder Lei Jun was questioned about the Mi 9 on Weibo.

A Xiaomi follower’s query was whether the Xiaomi Mi 9 flagship, which is yet to be released, would feature a 24W fast charge or more. The reply that was given was in the affirmative to the query, and the reply mentioned that the charging would be faster. This statement was obviously made keeping in mind the latest Redmi Note 7, which features an 18W fast charge. Rumors surrounding the Xiaomi Mi 9 are that it may come with a 32W fast charge with a 3500mAh battery installed on the handset.

Recently a Xiaomi device with the codename “Cepheus” surfaced on Geekbench, and this started the rumors that “Cepheus” may be the future Xiaomi Mi 9. Xiaomi Mi 9 is rumored to run on Android 9.0 Pie with 6GB of RAM. The new smartphone may come with a triple camera with an additional 12 MP and 3D TOF sensors accompanying the main sensor. Rumors also suggest that the Xiaomi Mi 9 may also house a 48 MP lens of Sony IMX586. It may be unveiled at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona next month or it may be released in May as the last Mi 8 was also released in May.
