According to a statement from Square Enix, the Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier servers will be shut down on January 11, 2023.

Square Enix stated, “We are regretful to announce that we will be ending service for FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER at 07:00 UTC on January 11, 2023. We would like to thank you all for all your support over the past year.”

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier’s closure reasons

Earlier this year, Square Enix released a free-to-play battle royale game Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier for mobile players. It is a prequel to 7 that takes place within a simulated realm in the universe and carries the action back 18 years. As is customary in battle royales, the zone shrank and forced you to engage in combat with other players until only one person remained. You may fight alone or in groups of three.

Square Enix has been making a lot of effort to get into the mobile gaming industry, but although some of their games have had spectacular popularity, most haven’t performed as well. The First soldier is based in the FF7 universe and was ought to draw players who would not often play Final Fantasy games.

According to the official ffviifs end of service statement, “Despite all our efforts to provide you frequent updates with new and interesting content, we haven’t been able to give the experience that we were hoping to and that you all deserve, hence we have made the incredibly hard decision to stop service for FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER.” So shortly, the game didn’t meet the developer’s expectations.

Shinra Credits, the in-game currency used by the First Soldier, are no longer available in the shop, but individuals who still own them can continue to use them up until the service is terminated. Before it closes on the stated date, those who haven’t tried this game can still get it for free from Google Play or the Apple App store.

There are only a few months left for FFVIIFS players to enjoy the game, and in January of next year, all game services will be fully ceased.
