When someone tells us about a new movie or a TV show, we all perform a Google Search to not only search for the information but also to get its reviews or ratings. Google makes it possible to see more information by including light-weight services directly from search results. This time, Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb, with Google testing out movie ratings from within search itself.

Google confirmed it was experimenting with ratings to Search Engine Land and says that the feature is currently testing stage and has made no official announcements yet.

Google movie search

Unlike other movie and TV rating platforms, Google’s feature offers a binary choice: like or dislike. When a movie or TV show is displayed on the screen, Google shows thumbs up (like) and thumbs down (dislike) icon. So, instead of rating a movie out of five stars, the viewer will have to decide whether a movie is good or bad.

The feature itself isn’t all that interesting, but it’s worth recognizing each small step Google takes toward layering over the internet.

There was a time when Google returned only links to websites. But, today Google provides all kind of information like weather, ticket purchasing options, etc. and makes it convenient for users to search information using Search Engine.

Within the movie ratings feature, users will also be able to see the Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb ratings for the title, as they always have been. The viewer will also get user ratings from Google Search.

It’s not clear exactly, when or if the new feature will be made available to users since the feature is just an experiment for now. If everything goes well users can see it in search results within the next few months.
