As part of its continuous effort to make networks autonomous, Nokia Bell Labs, a subsidiary of Nokia Corporation, has unveiled a breakthrough AI-powered language-natural-language network that can reconfigure networks through human speech.
The Natural-Language Network is a component of a new Nokia Bell Labs research initiative called UNEXT. Named after UNIX, the legendary operating system (OS) invented by Bell Labs, UNEXT will redefine network software and systems the same way UNIX reshaped computing. UNEXT will make the process of securely integrating anything with the network a simple task by evolving the network itself into an OS.
Nokia’s Natural-Language Network is the industry-first research breakthrough that will allow networks to be operated through plain speech or text prompts. At the same time, these networks, according to the firm, will understand the intentions of users and have the intelligence to act upon them autonomously.
Redefining Network Management with AI-powered natural-language Network
This game-changing technology is currently being showcased for the first time at the Brooklyn 6G Summit, taking place from October 31 to November 2nd in Brooklyn, New York. This innovation has the potential to reshape the way networks are managed and utilized, offering numerous benefits for both network operators and end-users.
Natural-language networks, according to Nokia, will make network management considerably simpler and allow for much greater end-user responsiveness. These networks will make it possible for service providers to supply and maintain the optimal network configuration for each customer at the exact moment that it is requested by utilizing AI.
Additionally, the firm added that the Natural Language Network is always learning from its experiences, which allows it to get even better with every new request. The Natural-Language Network self-adapts to service and application needs without human intervention as its knowledge base grows.
Reducing the Complexity of Network Management
Speaking on this breakthrough AI-powered language, the research team at Nokia Bell Labs said the Natural Language Networks hope to reduce the complexity of network management, which aligns perfectly with UNEXT’s objective of expanding the scope of interconnected systems by eliminating obstacles that hinder their mutual interaction.
Csaba Vulkan, Network Systems Automation research leader at Nokia Bell Labs, said: Operators won’t need to explore technical catalogs or complex API descriptions when they configure networks. Instead, a simple statement like ‘Optimize the network at X location for Y service’ will work. Those requests could be used to configure a wireless network in a factory for robot automation or optimize networks at a concert for a barrage of social media uploads.”
