The world’s advanced memory technology leader, Samsung Electronics has today announced the beginning of mass production of its latest 16GB DDR5 DRAM. The newest DRAM optimizes next-generation computing, including artificial intelligence applications, with greater power efficiency and productivity.

Since last December, Samsung has continued to work with international IT firms after completing its 16-gigabit DDR5 DRAM evaluation for AMD compatibility to stimulate innovation in the market for next-generation DRAM. According to the firm, the latest 12nm-class DDR5 DRAM has several advantages over the previous generation.

Reducing Power Consumption to Enhance Water Productivity

Samsung claimed that the new 12nm-class DDR5 DRAM improves wafer productivity by up to 20% while consuming up to 23% less power than the previous generation. Because of its exceptional power efficiency, it is the perfect choice for multinational IT firms that want to lower the energy use and carbon impact of their servers and data centers.

Meanwhile, the adoption of a new high-material that aids in increasing cell capacitance allowed Samsung to establish 12 nm-class process technology. The data signals exhibit a substantial electric potential difference as a result of high capacitance, which facilitates precise signal separation.

Additionally, the newest 12nm-class DDR5 DRAM lineup has a maximum speed of 7.2 gigabits per second and can process two 30GB UHD movies in about a second. This speed makes it suitable for data centers, artificial intelligence, and next-generation computing.

DDR5 Affirms Samsung Leadership in DRAM Technology

Jooyoung Lee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of DRAM Product and Technology, said the completion of the state-of-the-art manufacturing process reaffirms the firm leadership in cutting-edge DRAM technology.

“Using differentiated process technology, Samsung’s industry-leading 12nm-class DDR5 DRAM delivers outstanding performance and power efficiency,” said Jooyoung Lee. “Our latest DRAM reflects our continued commitment to leading the DRAM market, not only with high-performance and high-capacity products that meet computing market demand for large-scale processing but also by commercializing next-generation solutions that support greater productivity.”
