Repeat.gg has officially stated on their website that Sony Interactive Entertainment will be acquiring their platform soon. Following a partnership between the business and RTS in 2021 to purchase the well-known Evo gaming competition, this is Sony’s most recent acquisition in the esports industry.

What is the purpose of Repeat.gg?

Leaderboard competitions are held by Repeat.gg and are intended to broaden the appeal of esports. Basically, it keeps track of gamers’ performance in the games and enables them to compete without simultaneously being active.

What distinguishes Repeat.gg from similar Platforms?

It has been one of the world’s largest esports event platforms, allowing participants to participate for money rewards across a variety of online games. Repeat.gg has organized more than 100,000 events and allowed offline participation in tournaments, and the platform keeps track of player performance and has seen about 270 million matches played.

Sony acquiring Repeat.gg

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global competitive gaming, Steven Roberts, confirmed the acquisition, saying, “We’re excited to work with the talented Repeat.gg team to explore new ways for players to participate in competitive gaming and broaden the scope of our esports offerings. This is only the beginning of our adventure, and we want to provide more updates to our community in the future.”

Despite the acquisition, the platforms will continue to operate in the same manner, as stated in Repeat’s blog post, “Repeat is first and foremost a gaming community, and it will stay that way moving forward. Along with PlayStation, we’ll keep supporting PC, mobile devices, and other platforms. This includes the inclusion of the most well-liked competitive video game franchises, irrespective of the platform on which they are accessible.”

It’s yet not evident from the announcement’s official statement whether the deal has already been completed or is still in the works. Players may anticipate that when Repeat.gg takes on new routes in the future months, it will prioritize PS games more.

Although there won’t be any immediate changes from the acquisition, Sony and Repeat are already planning long-term enhancements to the service.
