Square Enix, known for its Final Fantasy games, has turned to Web3 and announced Symbiogenesis as a new “NFT Collectible Art Project.” The developers intend to launch Symbiogenesis in the spring of 2023.
The company unveiled its ambitions on Symbiogenesis during Web3 Conclave, a gathering of participants from all around the world that is part of the India Game Developers Conference 2022 (IDGC).
A short teaser was also posted by the firm on the Symbiogenesis Twitter account. However, it contains very little information about the Symbiogenesis project. Except to say that NFTs would play a role, Square Enix didn’t provide many other specifics. It uncovered the logo and was referred to as an NFT collectible art project with a story.
According to Square Enix, “Symbiogenesis is a brand-new entertainment concept set in a self-contained environment with a diverse range of characters in symbiosis, all of which may be collected as digital art; an engaging story; and a dedicated community.”
“The art could be used as a PFP for social media profiles and as a character in a story set in virtual reality. The user can solve a mystery by accomplishing tasks that center on issues of resource monopolization and distribution. More of the story is revealed with every clever choice players make.”
As Square Enix discusses accomplishing tasks to resolve a continuous mystery, it does sound like there’s a game hidden behind all of this.
Web3 is an all-new kind of cryptocurrency that actively seeks to participate in people’s daily lives by getting them involved in a diverse range of activities. Square Enix has previously shown interest in experimenting with blockchain gaming.
However, earlier speculations said that the Symbiogenesis project would be related to the horror video game Parasite Eve. Obviously, anyone who had high expectations for a new Parasite Eve game would be disappointed.
