While the global market is still getting familiar with the phones running on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, Qualcomm has already announced an event to launch a boosted version of the chipset.

In the launch event, which is scheduled to take place on May 20, the brand is all set to unveil two new processors – Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor

Multiple reports suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC will carry model number SM8475. It is also said that the chipset will be built on the 4nm fabrication process of TSMC. Previously, the water-down version of the mentioned processor was built on Samsung’s 4nm fabrication process.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor details

The latest flagship processor by Snapdragon is going to have a 1+3+4 core configuration comprising a Cortex X2 prime core with 2.99GH frequency. In addition, 3 Cortex A710 cores and four Cortex A510 cores are also going to be a part of the chipset.

Speculations are that Qualcomm will also modify the graphics processing unit coupled with the chipset to provide an enhanced gaming experience to the customers. We can expect the flagship smartphones slated to launch in the second half of 2022 to ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor.

What can we expect?

Previously, we have seen the Snapdragon 888 Plus processor that was not much of an upgrade as compared to the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Stakes are high this time because Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 marked the beginning of a new era.

As of now, we cannot say what differences we will see in terms of performance and other aspects in smartphone shipping with the plus variant of the chipset. It seems like the readers have to wait for a while to know what is going to be served on their plate.

In parallel news, the Vice President at Realme, Xu Qi, has disclosed that the brand is planning to roll out a smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor.

Rumour mills are already churning that the device is going to be Realme GT Master Explorer Edition 2. We could see handsets from other brands consisting of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC as well in the second half.
